Springbank Pedro Ximenez 10YO Sherry Cask

Springbank Distillery is one of only two remaining distilleries in the Campbeltown area, located on the Kintyre Peninsula in the southwest of Scotland. It produces Single Malt Whisky under three distinct labels: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn, each with its own unique style. Springbank Distillery was founded in 1828 by Archibald and Hugh Mitchell, becoming the fourteenth licensed distillery in Campbeltown—by 1934, only Springbank and Glen Scotia remained. It is still owned by the direct descendants of the founders. The distillery is one of the few in Scotland to carry out the entire production process on site, including traditional floor malting and bottling. This control over the process helps the distillery manage its three distinct styles, all influenced by cask selection and the local climate. Springbank’s parent company, J&A Mitchell & Sons, also reopened Glengyle Distillery in 2004, where Single Malts are produced under the Kilkerran brand. Independent bottler Cadenhead's is also part of the group.

Springbank expressions use a mix of peated and unpeated (air-dried) malt and are distilled two and a half times, compared to three times for Hazelburn and twice for Longrow.This limited edition of Springbank was aged for 7 years in ex-Bourbon casks, then finished for 3 years in Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks. Batch 1 was distilled in July 2012 and bottled at 55% ABV in October 2022. A total of 10,800 bottles were produced.

Nose: An unmistakable Sherry influence presents itself from the beginning, with rich notes of date syrup and raisins kicking off this full-bodied dram.
Palate: A tannic, spicy element is introduced in the palate, along with notes of cola cubes, cherry menthol, cinnamon and caramel. The typical Springbank characteristics hold their own against the heavy PX influence in an apparent oiliness and damp, dunnage note.
Finish: The tannic element continues through to the finish, and PX qualities come to the forefront in notes of sultanas and rich spices.
