Springbank 8YO Local Barley Release 2024
Springbank's Local Barley series is made from barley harvested exclusively in the Kintyre region, where the distillery is located. For this release, the barley comes from Glencraig Farm, located 3 kilometers northeast of Campbeltown, and is of the Belgravian variety.
The Springbank 8 Years Old Local Barley is a lightly peated single malt Scotch whisky, distilled in July 2016 using Bere barley and aged for 8 years in a mix of 50% Ex-sherry and 50% Ex-bourbon before being bottled in December 2024 at its natural cask strength of 58.1% ABV, non-chill filtered and without added coloring, with a total of 13,500 bottles produced.
Nose: Notes of peat and barley malt, white pepper, and charred wood, accompanied by a marine saltiness, between olive brine and hints of seaweed. Then emerge sulfurous nuances and fruit with a touch of ripe red fruit and sweet tobacco.
Palate: Oily, salted caramel, tropical fruit (papaya) intertwine with medicinal notes and dark chocolate. Smoke is present but well integrated, with notes of ash, pepper, and dry tannins.
Finish: Quite long, with notes of bitter chocolate, tobacco, barley malt, and lemon accompanying the closure, with a sulfurous aftertaste and hints of sweet malt.
