Kilkerran Cask Strength 8 Y.O. Batch 6 - Sherry Cask 58,1% Release 2022
Founded in Campbeltown in 1872, the distillery remained in operation until 1925, when all malt Whiskey stocks were sold and all equipment was removed. The remaining buildings, however, were purchased in 2000 by Hedley Wright, owner of Springbank Distillery and a descendant of William Mitchell, who remodeled and reopened Glengyle Distillery in 2004.
Kilkerran Cask Strength 8 Years Old Sherry Cask is a lightly peated single malt Scotch whisky aged for at least 8 years in casks previously containing exclusively sherry and bottled at cask strength at 58.1% vol. without being cold filtered or colored.
Nose: Toasty aromas on the opening, followed by notes of ripe apple, dust, and ginger. The alcohol is sharp yet not overwhelming, balanced by hints of vanilla, warm spices, sweet paprika, and subtle earthy undertones.
Palate: Sweet on entry with returning roasted notes, followed by a slight bitterness. Cinnamon and dark fruits (plum, blackberry) emerge, supported by a pronounced yet well-integrated alcohol presence that adds structure to the palate.
Finish: Medium in length, with a touch of peat and lingering hints of cinnamon, mild bitterness, dark cherry, toasted malt, black pepper, and a note of espresso. The alcohol remains clearly noticeable, yet harmonizes with the overall profile.
