The history of Tomatin whisky begins in 1897 under the name Tomatin Spey District Company during the whisky boom. Despite this, however, the history of this whisky dates back to many centuries earlier, in the fifteenth century, when it stood in a manor house supplying illegal whisky to herdsmen passing through the Scottish Highlands area. From its creation and first opening at the end of the 19th century, it began to produce steadily only in 1909 where it saw maximum development thanks to the production of malt whisky as a component for blended whiskeys while the production of single malt was secondary.
The best years of this distillery are until 1974 where it had become one of the largest distilleries in Scotland.

In 1985, however, some wrong choices brought it to the brink of collapse and only in 1986 was the company taken over by two of its largest customers: Takara Shuzo Co. and Okara & Co. Since then the production of single malt whisky has become predominant, ensuring that this brand returned to the market at full speed and returned to the dawn of the past.
