Kilkerran 16 Years Old - Release 2022 - 46%
The color is golden amber. On the nose we have a nice mix of floral notes, pastry, lemon meringue and fresh grass with hints of pineapple and a slight marine hint. The palate is complex with notes of herbs, grains, beeswax, pineapple, apricot and black pepper with hints of anise and a hint of peat with brine. The finish is medium/long, with light peat smoke leading us toward mineral notes, citrus, vanilla pod and a slight coastal hint.
Kilkerran is a Campbeltown distillery founded in 1872 by William Mitchell, son of Archibald Mitchell, founder of nearby Springbank. Glengyle suffered a series of setbacks and closed for good in 1925. Fast forward to November 2000, when Mitchell Glengyle Limited, led by Hedley Wright (Springbank) and great-grandson of William Mitchell, announced the purchase of the old Glengyle buildings, reuniting the distillery with the family that founded it. On March 7, 2004, the first distillate from the reborn Glengyle emerged from the stills, exactly 16 years ago. The whiskey was aged exclusively in ex-bourbon barrels before being bottled at 46% ABV without the addition of colorants or cold filtration.
