Corn Cob Pipes
Originating in the American Mid West of the nineteenth century, corn cob pipes became immediately popular because of their unparalleled virtue: affordability.
Henry Tibbe founded a company in 1869 to create corn cob pipes, renaming them Missouri Meerschaum, thus recalling European meerschaum pipes.
The strategy of tying itself to the Meerschaum name proved to be an excellent business ploy, and today Tibbe's small business is a huge industry with a production of about 4,000 pipes a day, exported all over the world.
The smoke turns out to be, especially in well-made corn cob pipes like these, fresh and dry, while they lack longevity, especially when compared with briar pipes.
